Competition Guidelines

Entry is free and there are no subject requirements. Short stories and poems are accepted.

Those chosen for publication in Fictionesse Magazine will be contacted by email shortly after competition end date.

Minimum of 100 to a Maximum of 2500 words for flash fiction/short stories
Maximum of 24 lines for Poems
(Any work sent that exceeds the above, will not be entered)

Once you have sent your entry you will not be able to edit or send an amended version so be sure you proofread well.

Only one entry per person, save your other entries for future competitions! If you have submitted an entry which did not make it into the chosen entries produced for the magazine, you can enter again.

You can send a flash, a story and a poem each month - if you are sending more that one piece of work please send in separate emails.

It's important to note that you still own the copyright to everything you contribute to Fictionesse Magazine. This means you are perfectly free to take what you have written and re-publish it somewhere else.
In contributing to Fictionesse you agree to grant the Fictionesse website a perpetual, non-exclusive right and licence to publish your contribution on the website as well as to publish and distribute your contribution, at our sole discretion, as part of any compilation work that Fictionesse may choose to produce in any format.


1. Please do not send attachments, they will not be opened!
2. Copy & paste your story into the body of an email
3. Title your email: Short Story Contest/Poetry Contest
4. Please double check that you have titled your story/poem - we will not accept stories or poems that do not have a title.
